2019 Aspire Prize for Personal Development winner: Matthew Thompson
22 May 2019

Matthew’s role in Devon was as a trainee Land Agent with Clinton Devon Estates.
He was employed across all three Estates in east and north Devon working within the Property and Land Department, and was involved with the letting of residential and commercial property along with paddocks and allotments.
Matthew, BSc Rural Enterprise and Land Management, was also involved with general land and property management issues, such as assisting with the energy performance compliance across residential property, and with the management of the Estate’s two share farms. He also contributed to environmental management through working with Devon Wildlife Trust and the Westcountry Rivers Trust delivering schemes to improve the River Torridge’s water quality.
Matthew says he was particularly proud of the positive relationships he was able to build with many of the Estate tenants during his year in Devon. He also adds that working for Clinton Devon Estates was a real privilege and is very grateful to have been given the opportunity to gain a such wide range of experience across such a diverse portfolio.
“My placement definitely gave me the background experience I needed to move forward with my career and I’ve recently secured a graduate position, which I’m very thankful for. I will be based in Kings Lynn with Brown and Co as a graduate surveyor and I am looking forwarding to starting this in September and the new opportunities it will bring.”
